Thin-walled structures constitute nowadays a fairly broad field encompassing different structural engineering branches and covering various materials (e.g., steel, aluminium, fibre-reinforced plastics — FRP, functionally graded materials — FGM and nanomaterials) and industries/applications (e.g., construction, automotive, aircraft and marine). The development of novel structural materials and connection technologies, together with the progress in computational tools and design specifications, are responsible for the continuous advances in the use of innovative thin-walled structures in a plethora of areas.
This international conference series was initiated in December 1996 under the auspices of Thin-Walled Structures (the journal) and its Founding Editor, Prof. Jim Rhodes — with no surprise, Glasgow was the first host city. Thin-Walled Structures remained very active in promoting the continuation of the conference series, which moved all around the world in the past two decades: Singapore (1998), Krakow (2001), Loughborough (2004), Brisbane (2008), Timisoara (2011) and Busan (2014) — ICTWS 2018, to be held in Lisbon on July 24-27, 2018, will be the eighth of this prestigious conference series.
As its predecessors, ICTWS 2018 aims at providing a forum where both researchers and designers, having distinct backgrounds but facing similar challenges, join together, in a friendly and stimulating environment, to present, discuss and disseminate the most recent theoretical, numerical and experimental advances in the analysis, behaviour, design and construction/production of thin-walled structures. Thus, you are warmly invited to actively participate in this conference, as one of its main goals is to promote an exchange of ideas that contributes to inspire innovative research paths and foster new collaborative endeavours. Hopefully, ICTWS 2018 will have a relevant impact on the future research and development activity in all the topics included in its programme.
With its intense light, deep blue sky, heritage monuments and unique gastronomy, the beautiful and vibrant city of Lisbon offers the perfect setting for ICTWS 2018. You will certainly enjoy the visit!
